Vaszary, János Kaposvár, 1867 - 1939, Budapest
After two years at the Pattern Drawing School he went to Munich in 1887, where he spent divided his time equally between the Academy and in Simon Hollósy's circle. He was a student at the Julian Academy in Paris in 1890, following this with three years in Rome. He worked again in Paris in 1893 and 1894. In the early 1900s he designed tapestries and posters as well. In 1905 he made a study tour of Italy and Spain, and visited Venice and Florence in 1911. He worked as a war-correspondent on the Serbian front during the First World War. He became a teacher at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in 1920, bringing the practice of an education based on free thought to the institution. Founder and manager of KUT and UME, he became the leading master of the first.
