Szántó, György Vágó, 1893 - 1961, Budapest
After his studies in Lugos he attended the architecture faculty of the Technical University in Budapest. In 1915 he was injured at the front and lost an eye. After the war he interrupted his studies in architecture and chose painting. In 1920 he worked as a stage set- and costume designer at the theatre of Kaposvár. At the beginning of the 1920s he moved to Vienna where his eye was treated, though, unfortunately, the treatments proved to be ineffective. By the mid-twenties he lost his sight and began to work as a writer. In 1924 he settled in Arad, founded an avantgarde journal, the Periszkóp (Periscope) and worked together with prominent colleagues, as, for example Géza Schiller and Csaba Vilmos Perlrott. In 1947 he moved to Budapest.
