Réth, Alfréd Budapest, 1884 - 1966, Paris
Alfréd Réth's oeuvre - after the studying years in Nagybánya - has been accomplished completely in France. He lived in Paris from 1905, he was one of the representatives of the avantgarde, cubist movements and the users of the collage as technique. He exhibited at the Salon d'Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne and he had a shared exhibition with Légers, Metzinger and Kandinsky in Budapest, in 1912. He had an exhibition at the Sturm Galerie in Berlin in 1913 (he also wrote articles in the journal of the Sturm).
Later on he joined the abstract movements, became a member of the group "Abstraction-Création". He exhibited in Paris, Kopenhagen, his works could be seen in the "Le Cubisme" exhibition of the Musée d'Art Moderne. By the sixties he became a successful, well-known artist, his works were on sale in elegant galleries of Paris and Saint Tropez. This work of art must have been created in that period because of the typical sand, shell and pebble applications.
In 1963 and in 1964 he had several retrospective exhibitions in Paris, Saint Tropez and Saint-Etienne. He died in his studio on Montparnasse.
