Maxy, Max Hermann 1895 - 1971
After his studies in Bucharest, the painter went to Vienna, where he studied at Arthur Segal's private school. Here he met Herwarth Walden who arranged the young painter's first independent exhibition. In his cubist-constructivist period, from 1922 to 1927, he painted several pictures , arranged avantgarde exhibitions, published a journal and taught. He also worked as a scenist and staged Pirandello's and Gide's plays. At the time of World War II he worked for the Barasheum Theatre in Bucharest and against the persecution he taught at the Jewish art school.
