Rudolf Hausleithner studied in Vienna and Munich. The most successful of his works were the village genre paintings. He worked for the upper class of Vienna, exhibited in the greates German towns and Saint Petersburg. Three of his paintings were bought by the Emperor Franz Joseph I. He also depicted the emperor himself, the portrait can be seen in the Franzens-Museum in Brunn.
