Gergely, Tibor Budapest, 1900 - 1978, New York
Even in his teens he went to the Galilei Circle and also attended the lectures of the Free School of Spritual Sciences where he became one of the members of the Sunday Circle. After the Hungarian Soviet Republic was formed, he emigrated to Vienna with his wife-to-be, Anna Lesznai. In Vienna he studied lithography at the Academy of Applied Arts, then drew caricatures for the daily Der Wiener Tag and made book illustrations as well. He exhibited with the Austrian painter society 'Hagenbund'. When he returned to Budapest in 1931 he taught at the 'Atelier' design school of Dezső Orbán. He was a member of KUT. In 1939 he escaped from Fascism to the US. He settled down in New York with his wife and illustrated children's books there.
